All students must obtain a Temporary Instruction Permit (TIP) card from the Louisiana DMV before the first day of class.
This card is required by state law for taking the Knowledge Exam and participation in the behind-the-wheel portions of driver education.
👉 To get your TIP card:

Visit your local DMV or schedule online at expresslane.org

Bring:

Original birth certificate

Social Security card

Proof of residency

School ID or other secondary ID

Parent/guardian with ID (if under 18)

Cost: $32.25 + service fee
📎 Without a TIP card, you cannot take the Knowledge Exam or begin driving instruction.
